What Cardano is#
Cardano is a public blockchain whose development began in 2015 and whose network went live in September 2017. Its native currency is ada (ADA), used for fees, rewards and deposits on the network. Slots last one second and about 5% of them produce a block, so a new block arrives about every 20 seconds on average. You set up a Cardano wallet first, then buy or receive ada.
